Some sources on the internet as well as the expanded description available on Fulk II d'Anjou in the French Wikipedia claim Foulques was married twice: 1) to Gerberga of unknown origin, mother of his children, and 2) to the widow of Alain de Bretagne, daughter of Theobald and Richilde. These sources sometimes give the unnamed widow of Alain the same name as her mother rather than allow her to remain nameless which has led to a great deal of confusion.

In Strantz (Geschichte des Deutschen Adels) I found a reference to the mother of Drogo and Hamo (the sons of Alain d'Bretaigne) as Gerberga the daughter of Rochilde who is often attributed as their mother by mistake.

This is still a mystery however since since the birthdate of Gerberga the first wife of Fulk II would make her quite old by the time she bore him children (having first been married to Alain.) I will continue to research this further. In the meantime though I do believe that the second Gerberga daughter of Rochilde de Borge is the correct mother of Drogo and Hamo and is the name of the second wife of Fulk II. (Feel free to correct this if you have evidence to the contrary).

Sorry, no evidence. However, based on the mentioned sources I conclude that:

• Gerberga wife of Fulk was not the same person as the widow of Alain
• Gerberga could not have been a daugther of Theobald van Arles (* ~ 850 † 895) and Bertha van Lotharingen (* 863 † 8 maart 925). She may have been daughter of Geoffroy vicomte d'Orléans, comte de Gâtinais
