Il fut le petit-fils du roi David II d'Iméréthie.
1855, il fut au Corps des Pages.
1861, il sortit diplômé de l'Académie militaire d'état-major Nicolas.
Il participa à la conquête du Caucase.
1863, il participa à la répression de la rébellion polonaise.
1863-1875, il fut le chef d'état-major du district militaire de Varsovie ou (Royaume du Congrès sous tutelle russe).
1877-1878, il participa à la guerre russo-turque.
1878-1890, il fut nommé procureur militaire en chef et chef de l'administration principale du tribunal militaire.
1879, il fut nommé chef d'état-major du commandant en chef des forces de garde et du district militaire de Saint-Pétersbourg.
1891, il fut général d'infanterie (Генерал от инфантерии, 2e rang dans la table des rangs, voir en russe la Table des rangs) sous le règne de l'empereur Alexandre III Alexandrovitch.
1892, il fut membre du Conseil d'État de l'empire russe.
1897, il fut nommé commandant du district militaire de Varsovie et gouverneur général de Varsovie, province de l’empire russe nommée Pays de la Vistule.
1900, il est enterré au cimetière Saint-Lazare du monastère de la Sainte-Trinité-Alexandre-Nevski.
